Shikaya is the managing partner of Facing the Past. Shikaya is a non-profit organisation that works with teachers to develop responsible young South Africans adults who value diversity, human rights and peace.

Facing History and Ourselves is an international educational and professional development organization headquartered in Brookline, Massachusetts with a mission to engage students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice and anti-Semitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry. Since it was founded in 1976, Facing History has grown into an international organization with a network of 25,000 teachers in 80 countries around the globe, reaching an estimated 1.8 million students annually.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED), along with Facing History and Ourselves is a founding partner of facing the past. The WCED provides access to teachers and schools, helps to ensure that the methodologies and resources support the school curriculum and provide funding and other means of support to the project.
